My poor car!

The insurance company decided it was a total loss. The obvious damages were $600 less than the NADA value of the car. I hate shopping for a car. I wish little brother's best friend lived closer. He has been a mechanic for 25+ years and could look over the choices before I decided what to buy. I'm probably getting another 2006 Camry, as I know they are built well. Mine was totalled when I was driving 65 mph and a deer jumped in front of my car. The 2 children with me and I were not injured.

Score deer 1, Camry 0

I hit a deer on my way back from NY state last night. I do NOT recommend hitting a large deer while driving highway speeds.

The oven works!

I was right, it was the oven temperature sensor. $17+ dollars with a 2 week wait for the part to come into the local appliance store and 5 minutes to put the new part in. YAY.

To celebrate, I made 5 apple and 2 pumpkin pies for dinner Sunday. :)

FALL!

Finally! The weather in this area of Virginia has been wonderful the last week or so. Not too hot, not too cold, perfect fall weather. I like it when it does not get above 80 during the day and stays above freezing at night. Of course, as soon as I remove the air conditioners, it will probably get warm again...

Stink bugs!

They are everywhere this year. My kids rooms (on the second floor of the house), the ceilings have many stink bugs. They have found their way into my home office/ hubby's workshop. I have killed a dozen today and there are still more in my office. ARGH!

Both washers are working

It took me 4+ hours to reassemble the old washer with the new parts last evening. I have 2 working washers, but only one dryer hooked up. I need a separate service panel for the laundry room to hook up both electric dryers. Not enough room in the breaker box to add another breaker for the dryer.

Woohoo! I saved $500+ by doing the work myself. However, both shoulders and my back are reminding me this morning that they really did not like me bending and moving heavy objects last evening...

Sears repair service SUCKS!

Now they says that if I want a refund for the part they overcharged me $145 plus tax, I have uninstall it from my washer, return it and in 3 weeks or so, I should see a credit on my credit card. Then If I want to, I can order the part from their parts site for the $258. I CALL BS! I'll return the part and order the new one from

https://www.facebook.com/RepairClinic where it is $211 plus shipping and taxes.

Not only are these new parts, but they are almost half the price that Sears is charging me for the re-manufactured one their tech ordered for me.

One washer is fixed!

I replaced the motor control module on my 2 yr old whirlpool washer. The parts to fix my 11 yr old kenmore were just delivered today. I know what I am doing after dinner tonight. :)

Both washers are dead!

I hate going to the laundry mat. When my old washer started acting up, hubby bought me a new one. The new one, currently 2 1/2 years old, died 10 days ago. The old one was already dead. Sear repair came out to look at both of the washers Friday. The old one, most of the parts were covered under the warranty, I paid less than $200 to get the uncovered parts. I will fix it myself. The new washer, on the other hand, a control board fried. They charged hubby $140+ dollars more for the part than they list the part for on the sears parts website. After an hour on the phone, the techs still could not determine why there was a price difference, but they did agree that they would only charge the price the parts site would charge. We'll see when I get the bill. I think they got tired of my questions. :P If I had been here, I would have been able to question the tech directly. Unfortunately, I was on my way to Massachusetts for one of my favorite Aunt's funerals. She was in her mid 60's. Rest in Peace, Aunt Pat. The world has lost a wonderful person way too soon.

Silly children

I bought material the other day to make my youngest 2 girls sundresses. I went to clear my laptop, monitor, etc off my work desk so I could sew and moved my 1 yr old sewing machine to the desk top. I then found someone had broken the jack where the foot pedal connects to the machine. I took it apart to see if I could jury rig something, but no dice. Since #8 kept distracting me, I could not remember where all the parts go back in. Singer said to send the machine to their nearest repair center, which is in Syracuse, NY. That is 400+ miles from from my house. I found the part online at https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/ The part was less than $15. They also had a parts list for the machine. I now have the breakdown of what goes where to repair it. If I get totally confused, the local repair man should be able to reassemble it. He has my 60+ year old machine we bought at the flea market a few years ago. I dropped it off so he could clean and adjust it. I should be able to sew next week, even if it is with the old machine. It's been so hot, maybe I should get the summer clothes out this weekend? I also have purchased all the parts a helpful child removed from my 12 yr old machine, except for the gameboy cartridge. I was bidding on one on ebay last week, but refused to bid over $30 with shipping. Anything over that makes it worth my while to sort the stuff I cleaned out of hubby's computer desk when we moved it from our room to the living room. I saw the cartridge then, but that was a year ago. :P

Wow!

#3, 19, decided to hang up the laundry on the line without being asked. Amazing! There is hope for him yet. :)

Please tell me bad things come in 3's

2 weeks ago, in less than a 5 day period, the water heater broke and flooded the basement, # 10 ate many children's claritin,so as a precausion I took her to the ER and Hubby's car died. Car was not worth fixing, a major seal in the engine went and I was not going to put that much money in a 97 olds with 214,000+ miles on it. Hubby now has to drive my 2006 camry to work. It has 216,000 miles on it. I had to buy new tires for the 15 passenger van, so I could get the state inspection done and legally drive it. At least our basement is not finished. An hour with the shop vacs and running some fans and the dehumidifier for a few days and the basement was dry again. The plumber came over within 8 hours, and did the work on the side, saving us +$200. I give hubby 6 months before he wants to get another car. He likes the older gm 4 door 6 passenger sedans, as he has more room for his legs and is not cramped like he is in the Camry.

Library

Is it bad that I have 21 items out on my library card and have no idea where they are? I emailed the list to the 3 big kids, maybe they have seen the books and dvds?

Poor #10

She has been sick since Wednesday night, puking. She is finally able to keep sips of watered down sprite down, but now she has diarrhea. I hate the puking illnesses. We do enough laundry without extra stuff to wash.
